Paulus Hook is a neighborhood on the Hudson River waterfront in Jersey City, located one mile across the river from Down Town Manhattan. It strikes the perfect balance of peaceful tranquility with its quiet tree lined streets and the modern convenience of today’s urban village with shops, restaurants, transportation , surrounded by Liberty State Park,Liberty Landing Marina, Hudson River and the New York City sky line.

 History

This location was originally part of a tract of land purchased by Michael Pauw, an Amsterdam Burgomaster and Lord of Achttienhoven in 1630, the first settlement at Paulus Hook was in1633.The name Hook comes from the Dutch word “hoeck” which translate into “point of land”. Until the American Revolution the Dutch and the English governed the site.In 1776, patriot colonists built here a fort to defend the western bank of the Hudson river.
